Dear Wood Dale Families and Friends,
The Early Childhood Education Center is proud to have two well established programs that were awarded to us by the State of Illinois through a competitive grant application process, most recently, in July 2011. These programs were initially awarded in 1987 and have been funded and expanded considerably since that time. The two programs included the following: the Preventative Initiative (formally referred to as the Birth to Three Program) and the Preschool for All Program (formally referred to as the At Risk and Preschool for All Programs).
We invite all district families to bring their infants and preschoolers into the Early Childhood Education Center for regularly held screenings that are offered throughout the year. We offer these screenings at no cost to you as early as 1 month of age through 4 years or prior to Kindergarten entry at age 5. Our screenings offer you a personal visit that includes vision and hearing screening, developmental screening in expressive and receptive language, fine and gross motor coordination, cognitive development; self help skills and, social/emotional development. Families that have any concerns about their child’s developmental progress are encouraged to phone ECEC for an appointment with the principal to discuss individual concerns to determine if a child should be seen prior to scheduled calendar screening dates.
The Early Childhood Education Center has anywhere from 160-175 children enrolled in 6 morning preschool, 5 afternoon pre kindergarten classes and 1 afternoon modified kindergarten classroom. We follow the Illinois Early learning Standards and use the Creative Curriculum model in our classes. Our mission is devoted to providing the finest research based early childhood education program to children through a partnership with their family. Our parents are involved through volunteer opportunities, parent education programs, frequent home school interaction and open door visitation opportunities. We expect our families to regularly to attend our wide array of programs as we consider our parents to be their child’s first and most important teacher.
Infant and toddlers, ages 1 month up to age 3 are invited to our open playgroups that are held at the Early Childhood Education Center twice monthly on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 9:30-10:30. Mothers, fathers, caretakers and their children are encouraged to attend this interactive literacy based play setting where snacks and fun activities are provided at no cost. Home based and site based visits are also offered on a weekly, biweekly or monthly basis by our 2 bilingual (Polish and Spanish speaking) parent educators that are trained in the Born to Learn curriculum.
All programs at ECEC are free of charge with a healthy snack and bussing (for preschoolers) included as part of the program. Each classroom has a minimum of 1 highly qualified paraprofessional and one highly qualified early childhood/special education teacher in classrooms that range from 10-20 in size.
Philosophically we believe that all children are more alike than different in their needs, particularly in the early childhood play based environment. Therefore, ECEC tries hard to individualize their approach in working with each child and strives to include all children, whenever possible, (based on each child’s needs) in the regular classrooms. Any therapy that a child receives is given in the classroom where the child feels most secure.
If we can be of any assistance to you or should you have any questions about our programs please feel free to contact us.
